Julia Williams, MEd, BSc, Dip D/N, RN, Lecturer in Gastrointestinal Nursing, Deputy Director to the Burdett Institute of Gastrointestinal Nursing (2005 - present)
Julia was a Stoma Care Nurse Specialist at King's College Hospital, London before joining the Stoma Care Team at St. Mark's Hospital, Harrow, as the 1st Pouch Care Nurse Specialist in 1996. Julia developed this initiative progressing to a Nurse-led service within four years. During this period Julia also attained her 1st degree in Health Studies and had the opportunity to explore the lived experience of the pouch patients as part of her studies. In 1999, Julia was invited to take on the role of Lecturer Practitioner in Gastrointestinal Nursing at City University whilst maintaining her clinical base at St. Mark's. In 2000 she took the appointment of full time Lecturer in Gastrointestinal Nursing where she actively developed level 2 (diploma) and 3 (degree) modules within this speciality, leading to a programme for degree level nursing. In 2005, Julia became instrumental in developing specialist education at the Burdett Institute of Gastrointestinal Nursing and acts as programme leader for the BSc programme. She has recently been appointed as Deputy Director to the Burdett Institute.

Julia has published in several renowned nursing journals, is a reviewer for the Gastrointestinal Nursing journal and has published one book exploring the essentials of pouch care nursing and been invited to contribute many chapters exploring psychosocial issues in gastrointestinal nursing. Julia has an interest in creativity and imagination and is exploring ways in which the creative arts can be utilised as an alternative teaching medium for post-registration nurse education.

Gillian.taylor@kcl.ac.uk- Tel: 020 8869 5433/4

I started working as a part-time Lecturer in Gastro-intestinal Nursing, Burdett Institute, Kings College London in April, 2006. Previously I worked for Macmillan Cancer support for 10 years both as a lecturer and also a Macmillan Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialist here at St Marks' Hospital. My particular interests in the latter role were support at diagnosis, patient information and service evaluation. I have also
enjoyed palliative care nursing in both hospice and hospital. I have been a nurse for over twenty years. I am currently completing my Phd on the 'The process of recovery after curative colorectal cancer surgery: a grounded theory study'.CLAIRE TO ENLARGE
