Lead Colorectal Cancer Nurse Claire Taylor as EONS representative at EURECCA-3 in PERUGIA, ITALY December 13-15, 2012
Claire Taylor was nominated to represent the European Oncology Nursing Society at the third Consensus Conference Colon & Rectum held in Perugia 13 -15 December 2012. This meeting was organised to create uniform European Cancer Treatment <http://www.canceraudit.eu/index.php?paginaid=10##> Guidelines to help address the considerable differences in cancer survival rates between European countries. Collaboration between ECCO, ESMO, ESTRO, ESCP, EONS and other European scientific committees was achieved. This facilitated a balanced case based discussion and supported consensus development of the guidelines using the Delphi Method.
In addition to participating in the three days of voting, Claire Taylor was asked to speak in Session 8 entitled ‘Guidelines Audit and Impact on Outcome Evaluation’ on ‘How the document will impact the patient support and communication’. The session addressed how we might be able to offer patients living in countries which do not have established Cancer charities, have no CNS Oncology posts or Cancer Information Centre’s, some standardised support and information. The hope is that registration of outcome-based quality audit registries will provide transparency, benchmarking as well as internal feed-back which will rapidly lead to improvements in cancer care across Europe.
