Zarah Perry-Woodford - Clinical Nurse Specialist Pouch Care

Registered Nurse (Adult), Diploma in Nursing 1999, currently pursuing my MSc in gastrointestinal nursing. Foundations in stoma care, inflammatory bowel disease and stoma care modules at BSc level.

Post registration, I served in the Royal Air Force as a military nurse on a general/colorectal ward. In 2002, I joined St Mark’s Hospital and worked as a Senior Staff Nurse on Frederick Salmon ward and then moved to the stoma care department as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in stoma care where I managed patients with colostomies, ileostomies, urostomies, ileo-anal pouches enterocutaneous fistulae and those with intestinal failure.

Since 2005 I have worked as the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pouch Care providing expert care to patients with ileo-anal pouches both pre and post operation. I also run an out-patient nurse-led clinic. I provide current, research based information and literature to patients and staff by contributing to medical and nursing journals and teaching on various educational courses.

Lisa Allison - Clinical Nurse Specialist Pouch Care

I first became interested in gastrointestinal conditions during my nurse training which I completed at Oxford Brookes in 2001. Early in my career I travelled and spent a few months in New Zealand working as an agency nurse to broaden my experience within the general nursing sector. I have worked for a number of years at the Royal Marsden as a Senior Staff Nurse and have gained extensive knowledge and experience within the field of cancer nursing. At the Royal Marsden I cared for complex cancer patients mainly with gastrointestinal and urological cancers and this has led me to take my current post at St Mark’s.

Here I work as a Pouch and Stoma Nurse Specialist. My role encompasses preparing the patient and their families pre-operatively, supporting and educating them through their hospital admission and continuing their care as an outpatient once they have been discharged from hospital.
