Naila Arebi graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Malta Medical School. She pursued her post-graduate training in Oxford and London leading to accreditation in Gastroenterology and General Medicine in 2004. During her training she undertook a period of research at ImperialCollege, HammersmithHospital, under the supervision of Prof John Calam. She was awarded a PhD from the University of London for her thesis examining the factors involved in the regulation of gastric acid secretion. Prior to her appointment as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at St Mark's Hospital in 2005, Naila undertook advanced training as an Endoscopy Fellow at St Mark's Hospital. Her research was supported by the Helicobacter Parkside Study Group and she awarded Sybil McMichael Bursary in 2000 and KeyMed Travel Award in 2005.

Naila's current clinical work involves most aspects of luminal and endoscopic gastroenterology. Her interest areas are Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease with emphasis on the psychological needs of young adults. During her time as a consultant she set up the Bravo Catheterless pH monitoring service and established a link with the Spinal Injuries Unit at StokeMandevilleHospital where she assists with the management of gut symptoms related to nerve damage. The rest of her time is spent teaching, training and undertaking research. Her current research is focused on Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She is a reviewer for a number of international journals and is the author of several peer-reviewed publications.

Naila is the clinical lead for the National Inflammatory Bowel Disease Audit and a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopists.
