Miss Samar AL-Homoud joined St Mark’s hospital in May 2012 as an Honorary Visiting Consultant Surgeon. She is currently a consultant colorectal surgeon at The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia .

Samar AL-Homoud completed her general surgical board training at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; she was the first female in Saudi to receive a scholarship for training as a fellow in colorectal surgery at St Mark’s Hospital in 2002. Her training was for two and a half years. Miss AL-Homoud was fortunate enough to be trained at different centers in the UK. She obtained The European Board of Coloproctology in 2007.

Following her completion of training, she joined King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2004 as a consultant colorectal surgeon. Her practice includes a high volume of colorectal cancer cases along with complex inflammatory bowel disease patients and anorectal conditions. Laparoscopic surgery is part of her repertoire of surgical skills. She has special interest in pelvic floor disorders and incontinence.

Miss AL-Homoud has several publications in the field of colorectal cancer genetics with regard to the population of Saudi Arabia. She has a strong commitment to education and training; she is a member of the educational committee for the Saudi Fellowship in colorectal surgery. A founding member of the Saudi Society of Colon & Rectal Surgery (SSCRS) and has chaired the organizing committee for its annual national and international meetings. She is actively involved in the national awareness campaign for colorectal cancer & a member of the national screening program for colorectal cancer task force.
